A woman was charged with DUI in Lewiston, along with a number of other offenses in connection with a hit-and-run accident. The accident took place in Nez Perce County in Lewiston on Friday, February 26.
According to the details shared by the Lewiston Police, the accident was reported around 9 p.m. on Friday. The suspect was identified by the authorities as Brittney M. Raney, 30, of Clarkston.
Raney was traveling westbound on the D Street at the time of the crash. As she approached the intersection of the D Street and 5th Street, she didn’t stop at a red light and continued to drive at a high rate of speed. Just then her vehicle struck a curb. The hit caused her vehicle to veer out of her control. The vehicle then crashed into a second vehicle parked on the D Street.
The sheer impact of the collision caused a significant amount of damage to both vehicles. Raney had a second occupant in her vehicle identified as a 9-year-old child. The child suffered only minor injuries while Raney remained safe in the accident.
Following the crash, Raney abandoned her vehicle and walked away on foot from the scene of the crash with her child. At the directions provided by the eyewitnesses, Lewiston Police located Raney a few blocks away. Paramedics were then called and the child with minor injuries was provided basic medical help. Police closed down the D street for nearly an hour while on-site investigations and cleanup were conducted.
Authorities then took Raney into custody. Based on the preliminary investigations, a number of charges were brought against her. These included Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Striking an Unattended Vehicle, Reckless Driving, Felony Injury to a Child, and Driving Under the Influence. She has since been booked into the Nez Perce County Jail.
